Do I need a Professional Photographer

Team days out, award ceremonies, trade shows and case studies - all good to show on websites

You don't always need a Professional Photographer

Hiring a professional photographer is definately not always needed, for news stories and social media posts, the spontaneity of an amateur shot can be a benefit. In particular shots of team days out, an exhibition, an industry event or an employee receiving an award can all be shot successfully on a phone. In fact, it can look better than a professional shot.

But sometimes you do!

Case studies on the other hand can be a very powerful part of a companies website. They can be shot by an employee, if getting a photographer on the site is impossible but care should be taken to make sure the images don't damage the overall feel of your website.

Prospective clients checking out the case studies page will notice. However impressive the work you have done, if the images are poor quality they will have a massively negative impact. You may even be better of not showing any images!

A good example are interior case studies. These need some care to shoot as lighting can be tricky and angles important. Almost always I will use a tripod, and high quality wide angle lenses. I will often take several shots, so I can combine them later in Photoshop, so all the shadow and highlight detail is retained. All wide angle lenses create some distortion, and it's vital to correct these in post production, and also, keeping verticals straight, without this the images will just look wrong.

Remember, it's often said people rarely read text on websites, they look at the images and scan the headlines, only reading body copy when something catches their attention.

Quality case study photography can show both existing and perspective clients that you value your skills.
